March 2010 2nd Edition - Issue: #49
President's Report:

Hello everyone!

Our February meeting was great! I would like to say thank you to all who helped make this meeting such an enjoyable evening! And, a special thank you again to Bridget and her staff at Spanish Hills for accommodating all of us!

As we head into March, our Spring membership campaign is back. The campaign starts March 22nd  and goes through to May 21st .  The discount for membership is

$ 100.00 off the initiation fee. This discount is valid for new members only (or members who have been lapsed for a year or more). And, they also get a $ 25.00 gift certificate to the NACE store.

So, NACERS, this is the time to bring those prospective members as a guest for $5.00, get them to sign up at the discounted price and get yourself a free dinner for your next meeting! What a deal for everyone!

Also, I have received some Educational Conference news!  National would like to remind us that now is the time to register early for Experience 2010. Early bird sign up is going on now. The early bird full registration fee is $ 995.00. To make it easier financially, they are offering a payment plan this year.

1st payment – March 31, 2010 (for the $ 995.00 price)

2nd payment – May 15, 2010

3rd payment – June 15, 2010

If you are interested and want more information now, check out the NACE national website @ www.nace.net, otherwise we will have more information for you at the next meeting!

In closing, our March meeting will be hosted by Heidi Whitcomb at the Ventura Rental Party Center on Tuesday, March 23rd at 5:30 pm.

We have a great program that you don’t want to miss! So, PLEASE, RSVP before the cut off date which is Friday, March 19th !!

Because it is very difficult on the host property to have last minute RSVP’s & walk-ins, we will no longer be taking any RSVP’s after the cut off date.

We really want to see everyone there, so please RSVP by March 19th.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you soon,

Marcia Santilli

February's Affiliate Member Spotlight:

“There is an emotion to be evoked by any image.  It is that emotion that drives me to do more than capture a beautiful image. It is the connection of the soul that colors my photography.”

Joey Carman’s career spans over 20+yrs. from NYC to LA and almost every town in between.  Having been in front of the lens as a model touring Europe with his own Fashion Boutique Modeling Agency he learned what made the ordinary, seen by most, seen uniquely beautiful through his lens.

Moving around the globe and settling down in NYC he was introduced to covering fashion from behind the lens.  In a chance meeting with a 5th Avenue Restaurateur who saw Joey’s work.

The Restaurateur selected him to present his work in a ‘One Man Showcase’ featuring his unique take on “what he thinks is beautiful”…new faces of fashion. That was some 18 years ago, that Joey credits, launched and shaped his career into what it is today.

”I’ve found that many of the things that go into a great photograph are the very same things that make up a great life.  There’s the need to grab a hold of a moment; the desire to explore and look beyond the challenge of light; allow life to show us artful moments...most importantly, to be present at a blink of an eye.”

“Live longer, photograph something beautiful and hold it close to your heart.”

Your Image

Yes, first impressions count for a lot, but last impressions....last.

What do you and your staff do at the end of an event (or a NACE meeting), or after providing your product or service?

What do you say?  How do you look?  How do you act?

Are you in the moment, and do you truly thank everyone?

Or are you already mentally off to your next job or a day off?

(Actually, if you love your clients and want to keep them for life, your relationship never really ends).

Take a look at the last impressions that you make, and remember that "life's a stage."

Have a great spring!

Tips On How To Worry Less

Worrying can be thought of as "negative fantasy" - thinking about bad things that might happen.

You can easily learn to get your thinking more under your own control. Consider with me what people worry the most about:

Worry # 1 ~ Money

The reality: Even people who earn more than enough to cover their expenses can be hit with unexpected bills, due to anything from a lost job to a major illness.

What to do: Keep a budget and track what you spend in cash; make a list of how much you owe, and note if you're saving any money. This will give you a sense of whether you need to be concerned. Also, avoid comparing your finances and happiness with those of people who have more money, because this can fuel money worries.

Worry # 2 ~ Your Health

The reality: Everyone worries about illness now and then, and as you move into middle age, you’re more likely to have unfamiliar aches and pains.

What to do: Get a thorough checkup to determine if you’re in good health, and bring any legitimate symptoms to your doctor’s attention. Then focus on the positive things you can do for yourself, like improving your diet and other habits.

Worry # 3 ~ The State of Your Relationship

The reality: Relationships can be fraught with challenges, particularly as the years together add up.

What to do: Take stock of your relationship by asking yourself how often you’re frustrated or upset with your partner and in what situations this typically happens. Write down your thoughts because getting your worries on paper as this will help you evaluate them with a clearer head. Consider how realistic your concerns are and whether you could be projecting unrelated anxieties onto the relationship. Then go ahead and find a calm time to talk to your partner, being honest but trying to avoid being confrontational.

Worry # 4 ~ Job Security:

The reality: In our uncertain economy, employment is far from a sure thing, so it's easy to wonder if your position may be eliminated or in our case can they do it themselves.

What to do: Grounding yourself in day-to-day reality is a good way to avoid stressing. Try to keep a close eye on how your company is doing financially. Discuss what projects you should be working on and which skills and responsibilities you should be developing. No matter what, it's always smart to look ahead, whether that means thinking of your next move within your own company or contemplating a career change altogether.

Bottom Line: Spend more time living and less time thinking about the things that don’t make you happy. Since worrying is an opposite of being happy, learning how to overcome worrying means learning how to be happier .  If you only learn to analyze and do things differently, you can really enjoy a much healthier and wealthier life.

(Editor's note: Go play "Don't Worry, Be Happy!")

And most of all: Relax!!
